The state has told the public schools to make about $20 million in cuts in the rest of the fiscal year and the order couldn't have come at a worse time, officials said. There will be a special program. Revival At Pea Ridge Baptist Pea Ridge Baptist Church will be participating in the “Here’s Hope" simultaneous revival from Sunday, April 22 at 11 a.m. through Wednesday, April 25, nightly at 7 p.m. The Rev. Bill Crowder, pastor of Glenwood Baptist Church, Bostic, N. C. will be guest evangelist. Special music and nursery will be provided. Steve Hardin is church pastor and Carmen Butler is minister of music. — Reporter Lady Wolverines Track Members of the Polk County Lady Wolverine track team participated in the Appalachian State University Invitational Track Meet last Saturday. The 3200 meter relay team (Katie Malone, Jessica Parkan, Leslie Carter and Karen Godlock) was second in 10:37.59. In the 3200 meter run Katie Malone was third in 12:53.53 The 800 meter run had Jessica Parkan 4th in 2:34 96 and Leslie Carter 9th in 2:42.99. In the 1600 meter run, Karen Godlock was Sth in 5:45 9 and Katie Malone was 8th in 6:03.13. Wolverines Golfers Finish Fourth Tuscola won a hotly contested six team golf match at Red Fox Country Club Monday afternoon at Red Fox Country Club. Tuscola had 339 followed by Pisgah 343, Hendersonville 344, Polk County 346, Roberson 370 and Enka 375. Andy Rouse of Roberson was medalist with an 80. On Monday, April 2nd. the Wolverines competed in a match at Holly Forest Country Club at Sapphire Valley and finished second to T.C. Roberson. The Roberson Rams had 328 while the Wolverines recorded 334. Other teams competing were Franklin, Mountain Heritage, West Henderson, Smoky Mountain and Mitchell. Individual scoring for the Wolverines was as follows: Travis Dotson 78, B G. Edwards 83. Brian Wilson 86, Ryan Tennant 87. On Wednsday the Wolverine golfers attended the practice round and par three tournament which are part of the Masters at Augusta. On Friday, April 6th the Wolverines competed in a nine hole tournament with Asheville School with Polk County shooting 173 and Asheville School 190. Individual scoring for the Wolverines was as follows: B.G. Edwards 42, Keith Nelon 42, Bart Cole 43 and Chad Dotson 46. Tennis Wednesday Polk County at Chase Spader’s Garden Club The Spader's Garden Club will meet at the home of Juanita Brown, 109 Edgewood Ave., Landrum, Thursday, April 12. Randy Settle of Settle’s Nursery will be guest speaker. New officers will officiate. Anne Clubreth is out-going president. — Reporter To Pave Sewer Plant Road The Board of Transportation has approved the paving of SR 1504, Sewer Plant Road, for a distance of 0.32 mile in Tryon at estimated cost of $60,000. Story Hour Landrum Branch Library Storyhour will feature Easter books on Thursday, April 12th. The younger children at 10 a.m will enjoy "A Bunny Ride" by DeLage and "Happy Eater Little Critter" by Mayer. At 4:30 we will read together "Miss Suzy’s Easter Surprise” by Young and "The County Bunny" by Heyward.
